Ezelina Chimaliro, a civil servant working with the judiciary office in Lilongwe, is one woman who has graduated from a habit of impulse spending to a savings culture β all thanks to United Civil Servants SACCO- UCS SACCO, whose products including savings and member education, have been a redemption among SACCO members.
According to Chimaliro, saving money was not one of her financial languages before she joined UCS SACCO as she was always caught off guard in her expenditures, hence, exhausting all her monthly income.
βBefore I joined UCS SACCO in 2024, I was very helpless when it came to saving money. At that time, I was of the impression that the fate of all my income was consumption not knowing that I can invest some of my money in savings, thereby laying a strong foundation for a secure and successful future,β said Chimaliro.
She has since heaped praise on UCS SACCOβs βsavingsβ product citing that it is fundamental among the many products that UCS SACCO offers.
βWhen you belong to an institution that offers excellent financial products like savings, chances are that you will improve in terms of financial management and that includes spending habits. Now that I save money with UCS SACCO, I am better prepared for emergencies and unexpected expenses later in life. And by learning the difference between needs and wants, I now understand better that money is limited and must be used wisely,β added Chimaliro.
Meanwhile, Chimaliro is still basking in the excitement of the dividends she received from UCS SACCO in 2024 and has her eyes set on her impending dividends for 2025.

United Civil Servants SACCO (UCS SACCO) has diffused the furniture challenge at Nkhotakota District Office (DHO) by donating two four-seater airport chairs valued at k3 million. The charity gesture, is part and parcel of UCS SACCOβs corporate social responsibility with which the institution undertakes in order to complement government efforts towards social welfare. UCS SACCOβs head of member service, Albert Fuka Moyo, described the donation as a response to a need that was brought to the attention of UCS SACCOβs Chief Executive Officer, Francis Waliwa, when he visited Nkhotakota DHO earlier this year. βAs an institution, we have a mandate to change lives, which is why we keep on supporting the communities that we serve. I am optimistic that this particular donation will improve patient welfare in the sense that patients will no longer stand for long hours whilst waiting to receive medical attention,β said Moyo. In an acceptance speech on behalf of the hospital, Nkhotakota District Office (DHO) Medical officer, Dr. Mussa Kambona, acknowledged the facilityβs shortage of furniture, noting that the available chairs are inadequate. Dr. Kambona has since thanked United Civil Servants SACCO for the donation, describing it as timely as patients brace up for a good experience as they wait for medical services at the hospital.
By virtue of its commitment towards corporate social responsibility, United Civil Servants SACCO (UCS SACCO) has touched the lives of 31 visually impaired learners in boarding at Salima Resource Centre in Salima by donating food items. As a way of outpouring love to the learners and elevating their spirits, United Civil Servants SACCO shared lunch with the learners, and indulged the learners in different sporting activities. UCS SACCO also donated clothes and shoes at the centre. In Nkhatabay, UCS SACCO, donated food items at Bandawe School for the Hearing Impairment, signifying the institutionβs continued commitment in supporting the resource centre each and every term. In Nsanje, UCS SACCO has adopted Matundu Resource Centre to be one of its beneficiary academic institutions. Headteacher for Matundu Resource Centre, Samson Ng'ando thanked UCS SACCO for the gesture saying the children lack food and other essential needs. UCS SACCOβs Marketing and Communication Supervisor, Alepher Kasongo, reaffirmed the SACCOβs commitment towards supporting various groups of the society stating that it is vital to complement government efforts towards social welfare and affordable education. At all the three centres, the donated food items included Rice, Maize, Sugar, Cooking Oil, Beans, Soya Pieces, and Salt.
