UCS SACCO TAKES GREEN INITIATIVE TO ZOMBA

United Civil Servants SACCO-UCS SACCO has pumped in millions of kwachas to plant 14 thousand trees in Zomba. This comes after the district lost 5 thousand trees due to heavy rains. 


Speaking during the tree planting exercise in Malosa, Assistant Forestry Officer, Yassin Lamusi, described the UCS SACCO sponsorship as a big boost, expressing optimism that the district will meet it's target of planting 3 million trees before the close of the tree planting season on April 15, 2026.


Chairperson for Zomba Malosa Taskforce, Venerable Canon Dr. Eston Pembamoyo, commended United Civil Servants SACCO for supporting efforts aimed at restoring the Malosa Forest Reserve which is facing severe deforestation through charcoal production.


For his part, UCSSACCO Zomba Branch Manager  Francis Kathewera, described the green gesture as part of UCS SACCO's vision to plant 2 million trees by the year 2028.

At this point, the interview takes motion, and Matomola is sharing his experience as a member of UCS SACCO. Geofrey Matomola’ provider-and-client relationship with United Civil Servants SACCO (UCS SACCO) kicked-off in 2025 when sales representatives from UCS SACCO exposed him to the SACCO concept. The way the product that is β€˜Member Education’ was presented to him, robbed his heart. β€œI was not familiar with SACCOS and how they operate. If anything, I was exposed to small-scale financial enterprises like β€˜Zipereganyu’, which are relatively limited in some other aspects. Then one day, whilst at work, sales representatives from UCS SACCO made their way to our office and a platform was created for them to market their brand. β€œIn the aftermath of becoming a member of UCS SACCO, I was helped to a Relief Loan which meant a lot to me considering that I was coming from a background that denied me access to loans. More remarkable was the ease and pace with which I received my loan. And, the loan gave me peace of mind because I was able to carter for bills which were invading my mental welfare,” said Matomola. Matomola says he is not only impressed by how the SACCO has exposed him to accessible loans, but also how his approach towards savings has taken a valuable direction through the financial discipline that UCS SACCO imparted on him.

DREAMER TO ENTREPRENEUR

Fresh from her palpable frustration which stemmed from a series of failed attempts to secure a business loan, Florence Naminga, went back to the drawing board determined, hence, joining United Civil Servants SACCO (UCS SACCO) in her search for financial redemption. Regardless of her gender, which is often looked down upon by the society when it comes to business opportunities, her resilience and determination enabled the birth of her poultry farming business of 250 plus chickens – signifying UCS SACCO’s gender inclusivity in its customer relations. β€œMy entrepreneurship dream sailed off by virtue of being a member of UCS SACCO.  At UCS SACCO a corporate member only need to have an affordability for the institution to give you a loan,” said Naminga, who has been a member of UCS SACCO since 2025. Naminga says she wishes to transform her poultry farming into an employment hub so that a good number of job-seeking Malawians can benefit from her enterprise. As at now, Naminga gets a minimum of 100 eggs per day from Mikolongwe Chickens, sells broilers, and she sells chicken manure cultivated from her chicken houses.
